Zamfara Victory: Troops Crush Terrorists in Daring Ground and Air Assault

In a decisive response to escalating attacks, troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, mounted a bold and coordinated offensive, neutralizing scores of terrorists in Zamfara State on Sunday, December 1, 2024.

The operation, described as a major win against terrorism in the region, was launched following a distress call from residents of Yar Galadima village in Maru Local Government Area.

The Call to Action

According to a statement by Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, spokesperson for the Joint Task Force, the attack on Yar Galadima began around 5 a.m., prompting residents and local vigilantes to seek military assistance. Troops stationed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Hanutara quickly mobilized to confront the attackers and restore order.

As the troops advanced, they encountered heavily armed terrorists in two separate ambushes. Demonstrating superior tactics and firepower, the soldiers cleared both ambush sites, neutralizing several assailants and forcing others into retreat.

Air Power to the Rescue

To reinforce the ground operation, the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma deployed aircraft to provide close air support. Fleeing terrorists were targeted in precision airstrikes, resulting in additional heavy casualties and dismantling the attackers’ ranks.

The successful ground and air collaboration highlighted the military's growing synergy and adaptability in combating terrorism across volatile regions.

A Message of Resolve

The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining peace in Zamfara State, the broader North West region, and neighboring Niger State.

“This operation demonstrates our unrelenting resolve to eliminate all terrorist threats and secure the lives and property of law-abiding citizens,” Lt. Col. Abdullahi stated.
