Wike Reveals President’s Plans to Visit Rural Communities for Project Commissioning

By Achimi Muktar

In what could be a defining moment for rural development in Nigeria’s capital territory, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to step away from Abuja’s glitz and take his administration’s achievements directly to the grassroots.

The revelation came on Saturday, April 5, 2025, during a project inspection tour by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike. The former Rivers State governor was in Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Bwari Area Councils to assess the progress of key infrastructure projects ahead of President Tinubu’s upcoming second anniversary in office.

Wike told reporters that President Tinubu is expected to personally commission several completed projects in the Area Councils — a symbolic move aimed at reconnecting the presidency with the people outside the city center.

“We are working hard to ensure Mr President visits at least one or two Area Councils,” Wike said during the tour. “Let the people see that this is their President — not just commissioning roads in the cities, but also engaging communities at the grassroots level.”

The proposed visit, scheduled for May 2025, will mark a bold shift in governance optics, presenting Tinubu as a hands-on leader invested in balanced development across urban and rural zones.

Wike specifically mentioned the nearly completed Nigerian Law School campus in Bwari and other infrastructural upgrades in Gwagwalada and Kwali as standout projects that the President may unveil during the tour.

Beyond project commissioning, the visit is strategically designed to breathe fresh morale into rural communities often sidelined in federal spotlight. “This is the President’s vision — to decongest the city and improve life in the satellite towns. We are delivering on that promise,” Wike emphasized.

Residents of the Area Councils are already abuzz with anticipation. For many, the upcoming visit represents a rare opportunity to witness the seat of power brought to their doorsteps — and a signal that the federal government’s policies aren’t just felt in the corridors of Aso Rock but on the dusty roads and street corners of everyday Nigeria.

Wike assured that all necessary preparations are being fast-tracked to meet the commissioning deadline, making it clear that the visit will be more than ceremonial — it will be proof that development is not just a promise, but a reality under President Tinubu’s watch.

Stay tuned — the grassroots may soon be the new stage for presidential power.
