The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has shed light on the recent arrest of popular crossdresser and socialite, Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, at the Seme Border. Bobrisky was apprehended on Monday, October 21, while attempting to flee the country, sparking widespread speculation online.
According to Kenneth Udo, the Service Public Relations Officer, Bobrisky was arrested because he is a "person of interest" in an ongoing investigation. However, Udo did not provide specific details about the nature of the investigation or why Bobrisky attempted to leave Nigeria at this time.
The arrest has ignited a flurry of reactions on social media, with many questioning the reasons behind the crossdresser’s detainment. The NIS confirmed that Bobrisky is currently undergoing interrogation and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities once the investigation is complete.
In response to the arrest, legal expert Okanlawon Gaffar expressed concerns over the NIS’s actions, stating that under Section 41 of the Nigerian Constitution, Bobrisky’s movement should not have been restricted without a clear justification. Gaffar argued that the Immigration Service’s vague explanation does not warrant such an arrest.
Despite the lack of details, the NIS assured the public that it remains committed to safeguarding national interest and addressing any public concerns. As the investigation unfolds, more information is expected to come to light about the circumstances leading to Bobrisky’s arrest and his attempted flight from the country.
For now, the details remain unclear, but the incident has certainly sparked public curiosity and concern about what’s next for the controversial figure.
