Tinubu Stuns Nigerians: 774 Young Health Fellows Land Federal Jobs in Groundbreaking Move!"

By Achimi Muktar

In a surprise announcement that sent shockwaves through the audience, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday approved the employment of 774 National Health Fellows—one from each local government area in Nigeria. The bold initiative, spearheaded by the Federal Ministry of Health, aims to revolutionize the country’s healthcare system by harnessing the talent and energy of young professionals.

The declaration came during the official launch of the National Health Fellows Programme at the State House in Abuja, attended by top government officials, development partners, and even traditional rulers, including the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III. As the President made the unexpected pronouncement, thunderous applause erupted from the gathered fellows and dignitaries.

A Highly Competitive Selection Process

The programme, recommended by Professor Ali Pate, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, saw an overwhelming 360,000 applications, with only 774 outstanding candidates making the final cut. Professor Pate emphasized the rigorous, merit-based selection, ensuring only the best minds were chosen to drive healthcare transformation across Nigeria.

Tinubu: "Nigeria’s Future Lies in its Youth"

Addressing the newly employed fellows, President Tinubu underscored his administration’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment and national development.

“This programme is a transformative initiative that underscores my administration’s commitment to harnessing the immense potential of Nigeria’s greatest asset—its young people. With over 60% of Nigerians under 30, we boast one of the most energetic, resourceful, and dynamic youth populations globally,” Tinubu declared.

He urged the fellows to embrace leadership roles in the health sector, positioning themselves as pioneers of innovation and progress.

“Your selection is more than just recruitment; it is proof of our commitment to creating a nation where equal opportunities are available to every Nigerian, irrespective of social status, gender, or creed. You are this country’s greatest asset.”

A Vision for a Stronger Healthcare System

The President further stressed the pivotal role of healthcare in national development, stating that no country can thrive without a strong and sustainable health system.

“Healthcare is a critical pillar of national development. An unsustainable health program poses risks, while sustainable development hinges on a robust healthcare system. You are the pillars of this vision, and I am proud to be here with you today,” Tinubu told the fellows.

A Movement for Change Begins

Professor Pate expressed excitement about the initiative, calling it a social movement that will bring tangible improvements to the nation’s health system.

“I am here to inform you that the movement to improve the health of Nigerians has begun, and we are already witnessing positive results,” he remarked.

Finance Minister Wale Edun, Youth Minister Ayodele Olawande, and the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, also delivered inspirational messages, urging the fellows to maximize this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

With this move, President Tinubu has signaled a new era in Nigeria’s healthcare sector, proving that his administration is serious about investing in the youth and the nation’s future. As the 774 National Health Fellows step into their roles, all eyes will be on them to see how they reshape the country’s medical landscape.
