Retired General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma has called on Nigerians to take matters of security into their own hands, stating that threats of kidnapping will continue until citizens rise to defend themselves. Danjuma made this assertion while speaking at the maiden convocation of Taraba State University in Jalingo.
The former Defense Minister emphasized the need for collective action against insecurity, highlighting the alarming rate of ethnic cleansing in some rural areas of Nigeria, including Taraba State. According to Danjuma, the peace in Taraba, which he described as a "mini Nigeria" due to its diverse ethnic groups living together, is under assault.
Danjuma's statement underscores the growing concern over insecurity in Nigeria, where kidnapping and other violent crimes have become increasingly prevalent. He urged Nigerians to resist and stop the ongoing attempts at ethnic cleansing, stressing that every individual must take a stand.
This call to action by Danjuma reflects a broader conversation about the role of citizens in addressing Nigeria's security challenges. As the country grapples with various forms of insecurity, the former general's remarks highlight the importance of community-led initiatives and self-defense in complementing government efforts to ensure safety and security.¹
