Sunday Dare is Right — ADC Should Stop Politicising Buhari’s Death
The recent attempt by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to malign President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the solemn state burial of the late President Muhammadu Buhari is not only unfortunate but deeply distasteful. The ADC’s statement accusing the Tinubu administration of “exploiting” Buhari’s death for political gain is a sad testament to how far some so-called opposition elements are willing to go for cheap relevance.
We align firmly with the statement issued by Mr. Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications.
His response was not only timely but accurate. The ADC, a party perpetually in search of an identity and direction, has once again resorted to a distasteful and desperate media outburst to insert itself into a national conversation where it holds neither weight nor standing.
Late President Muhammadu Buhari was a leader whose legacy deserves honour, not petty political squabbles. The state burial accorded him was in recognition of his status as a former Head of State, and millions of Nigerians — across political, religious, and ethnic lines — paid their respects with dignity. That President Tinubu led the nation in honouring Buhari speaks volumes about the current administration’s appreciation of history, leadership, and sacrifice.
Rather than join in mourning a statesman, the ADC chose to desecrate the moment with cheap propaganda. In accusing others of politicising the funeral, they exposed themselves as the true political scavengers — attempting to feast on grief for relevance they have failed to earn through performance or principle.
Mr. Dare’s description of the ADC as a “poorly amalgamated political contraption” is a reflection of public sentiment. This is a party that has made no meaningful contributions to national discourse except issuing erratic statements designed to provoke, not progress. Its recent remarks were not only dishonest — they were an insult to the intelligence of Nigerians.
The Tinubu administration, far from exploiting any legacy, is building upon it with visible strides in infrastructure, youth empowerment, economic recovery, and regional security. The facts on the ground are louder than the noise from ADC’s press room.
Let it be known that this government is too focused on delivering results to waste time on manufactured outrage from opposition parties that are themselves on political life support. If the ADC has any respect for the late President Buhari, they should stop dancing on his grave and allow the nation to remember him with honour — not as a pawn in their quest for attention.
