Seyi Tinubu’s Humanitarian Efforts: Why He Deserves Medals, Not Criticism

By Achimi Muktar

In the world of Nigerian politics, where loyalty is often mistaken for ambition, Seyi Tinubu’s recent tour of the North has sparked heated debates. Some critics have accused him of political maneuvering, but prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and youth advocate, Comrade Isaac Balami, believes the attacks are baseless. According to him, rather than criticism, Seyi Tinubu deserves medals for his unwavering dedication to humanitarian causes and national unity.

A Tour for Unity, Not Politics

Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been actively involved in philanthropic activities for over a decade, long before his father assumed the presidency. His recent outreach during Ramadan, where he engaged with Muslim communities and provided support to the less privileged, was met with mixed reactions. While some hailed his generosity, others claimed it was a calculated move to position himself for political office—particularly the Lagos State governorship.

Balami, however, dismissed these criticisms, stating that Nigerians should be celebrating Seyi’s dedication to national unity rather than questioning his intentions. “Seyi Tinubu’s actions have never been about politics. He has been consistent in his humanitarian work, reaching out across ethnic and religious lines,” Balami told journalists in Abuja.

A Track Record of Giving

For those unfamiliar with Seyi Tinubu’s history, Balami provided compelling evidence of his generosity. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Seyi’s NGO was instrumental in providing relief materials across the country. More recently, he funded the medical treatment of a young man who had actively campaigned against his father in the 2023 elections—an act Balami describes as the ultimate display of a “large heart.”

“Seyi has assisted individuals across party lines, including young people from the PDP and APGA,” Balami noted. “This is not about politics. It’s about humanity.”

More Than Just the President’s Son

Critics often expect the children of politicians to live lavish lifestyles, detached from the realities of everyday Nigerians. But according to Balami, Seyi Tinubu has defied that stereotype.

“We know how children of presidents behave. Many of them wouldn’t come down from their high horses. But Seyi has chosen to engage with everyday Nigerians,” Balami said. “Would people prefer him to be partying in Dubai rather than investing his time and resources into humanitarian work?”

Balami also revealed that more than half of the employees in Seyi Tinubu’s organization are Northerners, reinforcing his commitment to a detribalized Nigeria.

A Call to Emulate, Not Criticize

Balami urged young politicians and entrepreneurs to follow Seyi Tinubu’s example rather than tear him down. “Instead of attacking him, we should be asking ourselves how we, too, can contribute to the betterment of society,” he said.

In a final word of encouragement, Balami advised Seyi Tinubu to remain focused despite the backlash. “The tree that bears fruit will always be stoned. But in time, Nigerians will see the value of what you are doing. Keep going.”

Seyi Tinubu’s recent visit to the North was not just about Ramadan. It was a statement of unity, a reaffirmation of his commitment to serving Nigerians, regardless of tribe or religion. Whether or not he has political ambitions remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: his contributions to society deserve recognition, not condemnation.
