Power Shift: North-Central APC Bows to Tinubu, Ganduje in Stunning U-Turn
By Achimi Muktar
In a dramatic turn of events, the North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has officially thrown its weight behind President Bola Tinubu and the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje. This comes after months of internal wrangling and legal battles over the party’s leadership structure.
The forum’s decision follows the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at the APC national secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday, where key leadership disputes were finally put to rest. The NEC not only upheld Ganduje’s position as national chairman but also passed a resounding vote of confidence on both him and President Tinubu.
From Resistance to Endorsement
The North-Central APC had previously challenged Ganduje’s appointment, arguing that the party’s chairmanship originally belonged to their zone. The position had been held by former Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Adamu before his abrupt removal. However, instead of allowing the North-Central to complete his tenure, the party handed the seat to Ganduje from Kano State in the North-West—a move that sparked outrage and a legal battle from party loyalists in the North-Central region.
For months, the forum pushed for Ganduje’s removal, demanding fairness in the party’s zoning arrangement. But with the NEC now formally zoning the chairmanship to the North-West, the forum has decided to back down, signaling an end to its agitation.
"We Stand With Tinubu, Ganduje"
In a statement released on Thursday, the forum’s Chairman, Saleh Zazzaga, confirmed the group’s new stance, urging all North-Central APC members to rally behind the party’s leadership.
“As loyal party members interested in the progress of the APC, we agree with all the decisions taken at the NEC meeting. We endorse the vote of confidence passed on President Bola Tinubu and the national chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje,” the statement read.
The forum also pledged support for the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, recognizing him as the leader of the party in the North-Central.
A New Era of Unity?
While the move signals a truce within the APC, political analysts believe it also underscores the growing influence of Tinubu and Ganduje in shaping the party’s future. With the North-Central bloc now falling in line, the APC leadership may have successfully averted a major internal crisis ahead of upcoming political battles.
For now, the party has sent a clear message—Tinubu and Ganduje are firmly in control.
