Police Relaunch Online Tinted Glass Permits—Here’s What You Must Know Before May 31
By Achimi Muktar
In a major policy comeback, the Nigeria Police Force has officially brought back the Tinted Glass Permit—this time, with a digital twist.
Beginning May 1, vehicle owners can now apply for the permit entirely online, using their National Identification Number (NIN) and Tax Identification Number (TIN) to streamline the process. The revamped system promises faster approvals, tighter security, and zero room for corruption.
Applicants will undergo biometric capture and background checks, with the process expected to be completed within just 72 hours. The Police have also introduced a 30-day grace period starting from May 1, giving motorists until the end of the month to comply before full enforcement kicks in.
But there’s a warning attached: the Inspector General of Police has issued a strong directive to officers—no abuse, no extortion. He emphasized professionalism and transparency as the country moves into this new era of digital policing.
The updated permit system is tailored to serve specific categories of users, including individuals with medical conditions and licensed security professionals, while giving law enforcement better tools to monitor vehicles and enhance national security.
For drivers cruising with dark-tinted windows, the countdown has begun. The message is clear: get your permit or get off the road.
