"PDP Sets 2027 Power Grab in Motion: 'We'll Wrestle Power from APC' – South-East Leader"

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is laying the groundwork for a bold comeback, with plans to reclaim power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections. Chief Ali Odefa, the National Vice Chairman of the PDP for the South-East zone, made this confident declaration over the weekend as the party ramped up its revitalization efforts.

Speaking at the conclusion of the State Elective Congress held at the PDP Secretariat along the Abakaliki-Enugu highway, Odefa emphasized that the party is not just preparing to play a strong opposition role but is also strategically positioning itself to reclaim leadership both at the state and national levels.

“We are getting our house in order, ready to wrest power from the ruling party, APC, come 2027,” Odefa boldly declared. He pointed to the massive turnout of delegates at the congress as a clear indication that enthusiasm for the PDP remains high, particularly in Ebonyi State and across Nigeria.

PDP Opens Arms for Returnees

In a clear sign of reconciliation, Odefa extended an olive branch to former members of the party who had defected, assuring them that the PDP remains open to all who wish to return under its banner. "We expect an implosion from the other parties soon. This is the Peoples Democratic Party, and we are ready to welcome anyone back into the fold," he noted.

Odefa also urged the newly elected state leadership to prioritize unity within the party. He advised them to reconcile any internal divisions, stressing that a unified front is critical for the PDP’s strength moving forward.

New Leadership in Ebonyi State Promises a Fresh Start

Peter Nwele, the newly elected Chairman of the PDP in Ebonyi State, echoed Odefa’s sentiments and vowed to restore the party to its former glory. Addressing party members following his swearing-in, Nwele laid out his vision for a rejuvenated PDP, one that would re-establish itself as the dominant political force in the state.

“My focus is on reconciling with aggrieved members and bringing them back to the PDP fold,” Nwele said. He underscored that the party remains big enough to accommodate everyone and that their ultimate goal is to strengthen the opposition to take back power from the APC.

The election of Nwele was described as both peaceful and credible, with Nwele himself promising to lead with an open-door policy that would ensure transparency and inclusivity. “We owe a duty to our great party, and I promise that we will work tirelessly to bring back the lost glory of the PDP,” he added, referencing Ebonyi’s historical support for the party.

A Credible and Transparent Election

Meanwhile, Mr. Ugonna Ogbonna, chairman of the PDP State Congress Committee (SCC), announced the official results of the congress. He confirmed that the election followed all laid-out guidelines, with proper delegate accreditation and the presence of observers from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as well as security agencies such as the police, Civil Defence, and the Department of State Security (DSS). Ogbonna described the process as smooth, transparent, and credible, ensuring the legitimacy of the outcome.

As the PDP gears up for 2027, the mood within the party appears optimistic. With its sights set on wrestling power from the APC, the party’s renewed vigor is already sending ripples across the political landscape, signaling that the battle for 2027 will be one to watch.
