Outpouring of Respect in Kano as President Tinubu Mourns Dantata

The city of Kano pulsed with emotion and admiration on Friday as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived to pay his respects following the death of renowned business mogul and philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata.

The President’s visit, described by many as both symbolic and significant, drew crowds from across the ancient commercial hub, with residents lining roadsides to welcome him in a show of unity and gratitude. It was a rare blend of mourning and celebration — mourning the passing of a titan, and celebrating a leader who made the journey to grieve with them.

At Koki Quarters, the late Dantata’s home, a beehive of activity surrounded the area. Security forces maintained tight order, while mourners gathered in solemn anticipation. Tinubu's arrival was met with hushed reverence and heartfelt appreciation.

For Kano resident Alhaji Ibrahim Adamu, the visit underscored a deeper message.

“This was not just a condolence visit,” he told our reporter. “It was a declaration that Kano matters. That the memory of Alhaji Aminu Dantata resonates far beyond this city. The President’s presence touched us all.”

President Tinubu later visited Kano Government House, where he extended his sympathies to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the state leadership. The governor, in an earlier statement through his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, described the visit as a unifying moment for the nation.

“This is not just a loss for Kano, but for the entire country,” Governor Yusuf said. “President Tinubu’s presence here reflects a shared national grief and deep respect for the legacy of our elder statesman.”

Security personnel were deployed across key points in the city to ensure orderliness, but the crowds remained peaceful and dignified — a testament to the late Dantata’s influence and the people’s respect for their visitor.

The passing of Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata marks the end of an era in Nigeria’s business and philanthropic circles. His decades-long contributions to commerce, education, and community development earned him a revered place in national history — and the reverence was palpable throughout President Tinubu’s visit.
