NSC TARGETS TO MAKE NIGERIA SPORTING HUB AS INTERNATIONAL GYMNASTICS COURSE ENDS IN ABUJA

National Sports Commission Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director-General Hon. Bukola Olopade were at the Velodrome MKO Abiola National Stadium Abuja today to declare the First Nigeria FIG Trampoline International Judging Course closed. The Course is certified by Federation of International Gymnastics (FIG) in conjunction with Nigeria Gymnastics Federation.

According to the NSC Chairman, the Course aligns with the Commission's sporting reforms aimed at making the nation a sporting destination.

His words, "This international course is in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's resolve to make Nigeria a sports hub globally. The ongoing sports reforms is aimed at making the nation a sporting destination on the continent and the world as a whole.

"I am happy to hear that there are other participants from Africa and that this is the first course of its kind in this part of world. We hope to have more of such opportunities. Whatever we have to do to make sure it continues, we will do it and I believe the benefits will cascade to upscale the development of the sport in Nigeria.”

Hon. Olopade believes that the course would be a key driver of sports development.

He said, "We have always wanted to host courses like this and big sporting events so that our people can have the necessary capacity building. This will help us with the right personnel to facilitate the growth of sports in the country and take them to global level."

Earlier, the Expert Trampoline Instructor Christopher Lambert noted that the course will herald the growth of trampoline in Nigeria.

"This is the first time that some coaches and judges are in Nigeria to attend this course. I have been very impressed with the work they have been doing in these three days. It is new here in Nigeria. This will help develop the sport in Nigeria and the continent. Surely the people that we have trained in this course will help to develop the sport here", he observed.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of Certificates of Participation to participants by the NSC Chairman.
