In a monumental moment for Nigeria’s road transport sector, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has officially taken the helm as the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). The swearing-in ceremony, held on Monday, November 11, at the NURTW national secretariat in Abuja, marked the beginning of his leadership over one of Nigeria’s most powerful unions.
MC Oluomo’s rise to this prestigious position came after his unopposed election on November 9 at the zonal secretariat in Osun State. The election saw delegates from four southwestern states—Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti—participating. The former Lagos State NURTW chairman was the sole candidate, a testament to his widespread influence and support within the union.
During the swearing-in, Tajudeen Agbede and Akeem Adeosun were also appointed as vice president for the Southwest and trustee, respectively. The ceremony solidified MC Oluomo's transition from Lagos chapter leader to national president, cementing his position as a central figure in Nigeria’s transport union leadership.
In his acceptance speech, MC Oluomo urged NURTW members to embrace peace and forgiveness, highlighting the importance of unity within the organization. He called on members to let go of past grievances, stressing that together they could drive the union to new heights. "I promise to lead the union to greater heights with the help of Almighty Allah," he stated, expressing gratitude to NURTW members and his supporters for trusting him with this responsibility.
MC Oluomo's leadership comes at a critical time, as the NURTW plays a significant role in organizing and supporting the country’s road transport workers. The union remains a vital force in ensuring the interests of its members are represented, especially in a sector that affects millions of Nigerians daily.
In a proud and celebratory tone, MC Oluomo's son, King West, took to Instagram to congratulate his father on his new appointment. In a post that gained widespread attention, King West proudly bragged about his father’s achievement, celebrating MC Oluomo’s rise to the top.
As the new leader of the NURTW, all eyes will be on MC Oluomo to see how he navigates the challenges of leading the union at the national level. With his extensive experience from his days as the Lagos chapter chairman, many within the union are hopeful that his presidency will bring progress and stability to the road transport sector in Nigeria.
