In a major restructuring move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security framework, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of six new Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) and assigned new Commissioners of Police to key states.
The PSC, in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja by its Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, also announced the promotion of several high-ranking officers, signaling a fresh wave of leadership within the Nigeria Police Force.
New Faces at the Top
The newly appointed DIGs include:

Benjamin Okolo
Williams Adebowale
Bzigu Bali
Idegwu Ukuoma
Adebola Hamzat
In addition, the PSC confirmed the promotion of Uzuegbu Kanayo, the current Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG).
The shake-up also brought in fresh leadership for two states, with Ademola Johnson appointed as Commissioner of Police (CP) for Oyo State and Mamman Giwa taking over as CP for Enugu State.
Boosting Security and Leadership in the Force
As part of the promotions, the commission elevated eight Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP). The officers who made the list after rigorous written examinations and oral interviews include:
Abdullahi Usman
Sani Abdu
Ifeanyi Owo
Vincent Orole
Elisha Atikinkpan
Margaret Okonkwo
Alhasan Guga
Imo Ezekiel
Chairman of the PSC, Mr. Hashimu Argungu, who presided over the selection process, emphasized that the newly appointed DIGs must work closely with the Inspector-General of Police to strengthen national security and law enforcement efforts across the country.
What This Means for Nigeria’s Security
With growing concerns over crime and insecurity, the latest appointments are expected to inject fresh energy into policing efforts nationwide. As new leaders take charge, all eyes will be on them to deliver results in tackling crime, enforcing law and order, and restoring public confidence in the force.
Will this new wave of leadership be the game-changer Nigeria needs? Only time will tell.
