President Bola Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of retired Justice Mukhtar Muhammad Dodo, who died on Sunday at the age of 70. In a condolence message released on Sunday, President Tinubu described the late jurist as an upright judicial officer, a patriotic Nigerian, and a fearless jurist who dedicated his life to strengthening Nigeria’s judicial system.

Justice Dodo, who hailed from Katsina State, had a distinguished career in the judiciary that spanned decades. He served as Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria before his appointment as a High Court Judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where he earned respect for his professionalism, integrity, and devotion to justice.

President Tinubu praised the late Justice Dodo for his unwavering commitment to fairness and his contributions to the advancement of Nigeria’s legal system. “Justice Dodo lived a life of honour and diligence. His career reflected his passion for justice and his belief in the rule of law as the foundation of our democracy,” the President said. The President extended his condolences to the government and people of Katsina State, as well as to the Dodo family, praying that Allah grants them the strength to bear the loss.

He also prayed for the repose of the late Justice’s soul, asking God to reward his years of service to the nation with eternal rest. Justice Dodo’s death marks the loss of one of Nigeria’s most respected judicial figures, whose legacy continues to inspire members of the bench and bar. His contributions to the judiciary, particularly during his tenure at the Supreme Court and FCT High Court, have been described by legal colleagues as instrumental in promoting transparency and professionalism in the justice system.

The late jurist is remembered not only for his service but also for his mentorship of younger lawyers and judges, many of whom have credited him with shaping their understanding of judicial ethics and impartiality. Justice Mukhtar Dodo’s passing has drawn tributes from across Nigeria’s legal and political communities, with many describing his death as a great loss to the nation’s judiciary and to Katsina State.
