Federal Workers to Receive N175,000 in 5-Month Wage Arrears — Starting This April
By Achimi Muktar
After months of anticipation and growing frustration, the Federal Government has announced a long-awaited lifeline for its employees: payment of five months’ outstanding wage award arrears.
In a statement released by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), workers were assured that the government has activated plans to disburse the arrears in monthly instalments of N35,000, beginning immediately after the April 2025 salary.
That means federal workers will soon start receiving an extra N35,000 monthly, totalling N175,000 over five months, in what many have described as a critical boost amid rising economic pressures.
The OAGF also clarified that this wage award—introduced as a cushion against inflation and cost-of-living spikes—had been partially settled in the past, and this latest move reflects the government’s renewed commitment to worker welfare and morale.
“This payment aims to enhance productivity and motivation across the public service,” the office stated, signaling a potential end to months of agitation from civil servants.
While exact payment dates have yet to be confirmed, sources within the Ministry of Finance say the April salary schedule has already been adjusted to reflect the first instalment.
For many federal workers, this isn’t just a paycheck—it’s long overdue recognition of their loyalty and contribution in the face of economic hardship.
With the government making good on its word, all eyes are now on timely execution and whether this will be a turning point in rebuilding trust between public servants and the administration.
