FRSC Officer Abducted in Enugu: Gunmen Demand N5 Million Ransom

By Achimi Muktari

A chilling new wave of insecurity has hit Nigeria's South-East as gunmen abducted Emeason Chima, an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in Enugu State. The kidnapping occurred near Maduka University in the Ekwegbe area of Igbo-Etiti Local Government on Saturday, sparking widespread fear and uncertainty.

The Abduction

TrafficNg gathered that Mr. Chima, attached to the Ugbokolo Unit in Benue State, was traveling alone when he was ambushed by the gunmen. He was reportedly seized near Maduka University, leaving the local community shaken. An FRSC official confirmed the incident through a WhatsApp group message shared among the corps members, sending shockwaves through their ranks.

Demand for Ransom

By Monday night, the kidnappers contacted Mr. Chima’s family, demanding a hefty ransom of N5 million for his release. Frank Agbakoba, the Sector Commander of FRSC in Enugu, confirmed the situation to TrafficNg, stating that negotiations with the abductors are ongoing.

Silence from Authorities

Despite the severity of the incident, the police in Enugu State have remained silent on the matter. Attempts to reach the police spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, have so far yielded no response, leaving many to wonder about the effectiveness of security measures in the region.

Kidnapping Epidemic in Enugu

This incident is just one of many in a growing trend of kidnappings for ransom along the Opi-Nsukka-Ugwogo-Nike Road. Civil servants, business owners, politicians, and even students have fallen prey to these attacks, signaling a disturbing rise in insecurity across Enugu State.

As communities grapple with the fear of abductions and the growing demand for ransom, the urgent need for effective security intervention has never been clearer.
