FG to Publicly Name Corrupt Procurement Officers in Contract Scam Crackdown
By Achimi Muktar
A storm is brewing in Nigeria’s civil service — and corrupt procurement officers are in the eye of it.
The Federal Government has declared an all-out war against shady contract deals, vowing to publicly name and shame procurement officers who manipulate or inflate contract costs across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
At the forefront of this bold initiative is the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), which has made it clear: the era of backdoor deals, inflated figures, and political patronage under the guise of procurement is officially over.
“We Will Expose You” — FG Fires Warning Shot
The warning came straight from the BPP Director General, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, during a high-stakes enlightenment workshop held for procurement directors in Abuja. His message was loud and clear — corruption in public procurement will no longer be swept under the rug.
“The days of compromising procurement integrity are over,” Dr. Adedokun said. “Any officer caught manipulating contract costs will be exposed to the public. We are taking transparency to a whole new level.”
A New Era of Accountability Begins
The government isn’t stopping at warnings. Dr. Adedokun disclosed that a new policy is already in the works to blacklist and debar contractors with a track record of defaults — a move aimed at flushing out chronic abusers of the procurement process.
Only those who abide by due process and demonstrate absolute transparency will be allowed to continue handling government contracts, he emphasized.
End of an Old Culture
The FG’s renewed stance comes amid growing public outcry over bloated budgets and mysterious contract sums. For years, insiders have treated procurement like political currency — awarding inflated contracts to cronies in exchange for kickbacks.
But this time, the government wants the public to see the names behind the rot.
“This isn’t just about compliance. It’s about restoring public trust,” Dr. Adedokun said. “Nigerians deserve to know who’s robbing the system blind.”
From Cover-Up to Clean-Up
The planned crackdown signals a turning point in how government projects are awarded and monitored. It is part of a broader push to ensure that every naira spent on public infrastructure delivers real value — not just fatten the pockets of a few.
With the promise to expose erring officers and clamp down on corrupt contractors, the FG is sending a powerful message: the days of faceless fraudsters manipulating Nigeria’s procurement system are numbered.
Corruption, your time is up — and the spotlight is coming.
