FG Promises to Deliver Long-Awaited Sokoto-Zaria Road Project"

By Achimi Muktar

After years of delays and deteriorating road conditions, the Federal Government has vowed to fast-track the completion of the 750-kilometer Sokoto-Gusau-Funtua-Zaria road project. Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, reaffirmed this commitment during an inspection tour over the weekend, signaling renewed urgency in addressing Nigeria’s crumbling road infrastructure.

Speaking along the Dange-Shuni to Talata Mafara stretch, Goronyo emphasized that the inspection aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s directives to ensure all ongoing projects meet their deadlines and are executed to the highest standards.

“I am leading a team comprising the Permanent Secretary and other ministry officials on an inspection tour across Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, and Kano states. Our mission is clear—ensuring quality and seamless project delivery,” the minister stated.

He further warned contractors to adhere strictly to all contractual agreements, stressing that speed and quality are non-negotiable in the reconstruction process.

Beyond infrastructure, Goronyo linked the project’s success to President Tinubu’s political future, urging Nigerians to recognize his commitment to impactful legacy projects as the 2027 general elections approach.

For residents and commuters who have long endured pothole-ridden roads and nightmarish journeys, the promise of a completed Sokoto-Zaria road could mark the beginning of long-awaited relief. Now, the question remains: Will the government deliver, or will this be another empty pledge?
