FG Launches Game-Changing e-Visa System Starting May 1st
By Achimi Muktar
In a move set to revolutionize travel into Nigeria, the Federal Government has unveiled a groundbreaking electronic visa (e-Visa) system, officially going live on May 1, 2025.
The announcement came during a high-level strategic meeting in Abuja between the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.
Say goodbye to long queues, embassy delays, and tedious paperwork. With this new system, travelers can now apply for visas entirely online—from uploading necessary documents to making payments and receiving their visa digitally. The era of seamless travel to Nigeria has begun.
"This innovation is not just about convenience—it’s about unlocking Nigeria’s potential," said Dr. Tunji-Ojo. "We are removing red tape to attract more tourists, investors, and global partners, while ensuring national security remains watertight."
To bolster security, the government has trained immigration officers extensively and integrated them into major international security networks, including INTERPOL. Every incoming traveler will undergo thorough background checks, blending accessibility with vigilance.
This e-Visa rollout is part of Nigeria’s broader strategy to modernize its immigration system, positioning the country as a top destination for business and leisure in Africa.
