Ended Fuel Subsidy to Save Nigeria’s Future– Tinubu Declares as He Rallies Youths for National Development

By Achimi muktar

In a bold declaration, President Bola Tinubu has defended his administration’s decision to remove fuel subsidies, stating it was a necessary sacrifice to secure a prosperous future for unborn generations. Speaking at the inauguration of the National Youth Congress Planning Committee in Abuja, Tinubu emphasized that his government’s policies are driven by a long-term vision to uplift Nigerian youths and prevent mass emigration.

"Every Decision I Make is About Tomorrow"

Addressing the gathering at the Presidential Villa, Tinubu underscored his commitment to youth empowerment, urging young Nigerians to take ownership of their country’s future.

“I’ve listened to you carefully. Today is not for long speeches, but I want to reassure you that you are the hope of this country. Every decision I’ve taken is all about tomorrow," he stated.

The President argued that the removal of fuel subsidies was not just an economic policy but a strategic move to prevent financial collapse and create investment opportunities in infrastructure and development.

"When you remove oil subsidy, you’re protecting the future of generations yet unborn. Many professionals are leaving the country because they see limited prospects here. But if we grow prosperity at home, empower people, and create jobs, they will stay,” Tinubu added.

"Nigeria’s Economy Has Turned the Corner"

Despite public outcry over rising costs of living, Tinubu insisted that his administration’s economic strategies are yielding results. According to him, the country is already witnessing falling prices, renewed investor confidence, and technological advancements.

“When we started, it looked foggy, dicey, and hopeless. We were fetching water from a dry well. But today, the economy has turned the corner. Prices are falling, investor confidence is improving, and technology is advancing. You have the opportunity to be part of this transformation," he assured.

A Call to Action for the Youth

Tinubu challenged young Nigerians to engage more actively in governance rather than merely criticizing politicians.

“You can abuse politicians all you like, but politics is about development and the future. Look me in the face and tell me what’s wrong and how you want things done. We will implement anything that contributes to Nigeria’s prosperity," he declared.

The President went further to inaugurate the National Youth Congress Planning Committee, urging them to embrace technology, agriculture, and innovation to ensure Nigeria’s self-sufficiency in food production.

“I am with you. I may not be young again—maybe in my next life—but I am envious of all of you,” he quipped.

Government Ready to Listen, Says Youth Minister

Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, reiterated that the conference is designed to promote youth engagement in governance.

“This administration is a listening government. The ideas and contributions of young people will be incorporated into national policies,” Olawande stated.

The youth confab planning committee includes representatives from the Federal Ministry of Finance, civil society organizations, NGOs, and the World Bank. One of its lead members, Samson Itodo of Yiaga Africa, praised Tinubu for recognizing the importance of youth in shaping Nigeria’s future.

As Nigeria continues to grapple with economic challenges, the President’s call for youth-driven transformation sets the stage for what could be a defining moment in the country’s development. Whether Tinubu’s policies will truly safeguard the future remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—the youth now have a seat at the table.
