BREAKING NEWS: Chanchaga Local Government Chairman Suspended by Legislative Council

In a major political shake-up, the Legislative Council of Chanchaga Local Government Area in Niger State has suspended the Executive Chairman, Hon. Aminu Yakubu Ladan, from office. The decision, communicated through an official notice dated 28th July 2025, follows a series of allegations bordering on gross misconduct, financial impropriety, and abuse of office.

The suspension letter, signed by ten council legislators, outlines nine major allegations, including:

Misappropriation of council funds.

Illegal allocation of plots in the market.

Breach of procurement laws through award of contracts without legislative oversight.

Persistent refusal of executive directors to honor legislative summons.

Failure to account for Minna Development Funds.

Non-compliance with financial reporting standards and absence of statutory committee meetings.

According to the Council, the suspension is in line with Section 31(2) of the Niger State Local Government Law, granting the legislative body authority to act in the face of serious administrative breaches.

The development comes just days after Chairman Ladan reportedly filed a lawsuit against the Niger State Government a move that now appears to have intensified internal tensions, as the same councillors who previously backed his legal action are the ones now endorsing his removal.

In their resolution, the Council directed the suspended chairman to submit a written defense within five working days, warning that failure to do so would be considered a waiver of his right to defense.

Signatories to the suspension include:

Rt. Hon. Yahuza Saidu (House Leader, Makera Ward)

Rt. Hon. Abdulrahman Suleiman (Deputy Leader, Limawa ‘A’ Ward)

Hon. Ibrahim Isah Gomna (Majority Leader, Minna South Ward)
