🇳🇬 Day of Reflection: FG Declares Tuesday Public Holiday to Honour Buhari’s Legacy

In a solemn tribute to a man who once led the nation through turbulent tides and calm waters, the Federal Government has declared Tuesday, July 15, a public holiday in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The announcement, made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, follows President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s earlier proclamation of a seven-day national mourning period. As part of this official observance, national flags will continue to fly at half-mast across the country until Saturday, July 19.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo described the holiday as a symbol of respect for Buhari’s life of service, his unyielding dedication to the unity of Nigeria, and his place in history as a figure of democratic transition and national development.

“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of our great nation,” said the Minister in a statement signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

He encouraged Nigerians to use the holiday as a day of reflection—a moment to embrace the values of peace, patriotism, and national unity that Buhari consistently championed.

“This is not just a day off. It’s a call to reflect on what it means to serve one’s country with honour,” he added.

The Federal Government also extended its heartfelt condolences to Buhari’s family, the people of Katsina State, and Nigerians at large, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.

As the nation pauses to remember, Tuesday will stand not just as a holiday—but as a national moment of unity and remembrance.
